Sam Cooke was an American soul singer and songwriter. The album features the tracks "Twistin' The Night Away," "Sugar Dumpling," "The Twist," and "Somebody Have Mercy." Rene Hall and Sammy Lowe were conductors, and Rene Hall also arranged the music. Al Schmitt was the recording engineer. The album was recorded at RCA Victor Studios, Hollywood.
