Vinyl Record Formats

LP (1893 records)

A single 12-inch record playing at 33 1/3 RPM, usually 35 to 50 minutes of music. Most albums were made for this format.

2xLP (699 records)

Two records in one package, often in a gatefold jacket. Used for long albums, deluxe editions with bonus tracks, and remasters that spread the music over more sides.

3xLP (26 records)

Three records, common for live albums and expanded anniversary editions.

4xLP (2 records)

Four records, usually a box or a large gatefold set: complete concerts, career collections and deluxe reissues.
